Cross Stitching Update

Sorry Shae, I didn't do this a couple of days ago... but here we go! I have a hard time getting good pictures.

I have two more Mirabilia projects all ready to start... but I don't feel like it just yet. If I keep up this pace the whole year that C's gone, I'll have a few finished projects to frame!
=========

I heard from C via computer again last night! Everything is good; they're really busy getting everything set up. He still has that bad cold - hopefully it'll pass soon.

The good news from Iraq today is that he got promoted! His Captain pinned him and it's totally official!! He's a Sergeant now!

SGT.jpg

Look at those stripes. =o)

That's a really big promotion... he'll finally get some respect that he deserves and not be at the total beck and call of everyone else. The next step will be Staff Sergeant - hopefully not too long down the road, either. He's catching up to the other guys his age fast... considering he was out of the service for 9 years.

Disney Adventures Magazine...

The Boy got a surprise in today's mail! It appears that someone has gotten him a subscription to this magazine... but we don't know who!

Was it any of you?

Thank you! =o)

What the Day After Xmas Looks Like in Hawaii

sunny

Another fun, tiring day today. We did go to the Ko'Olina Lagoons for some beach time. This place is really great... you park, and walk up a grassy hill, and get this awesome view:

The last time I posted up Ko'Olina pictures, I should have put this picture to show you what the area looks like. There are four man-made lagoons right next to each other. #1 is for private use only, and 2-4 are for public use.

The ocean was much rougher today than it was the last time we all went out there. The waves were literally crashing onto the rocky shoreline and it was making these big WHOOMPing noises! It was really cool. I tried to get pictures of the resulting big sprays, but the kids were anxious to get moving.... here's what I did get:

Kids schlepping our beach stuff over to the next lagoon (we like #3 best).

The day after Christmas looks amazing, doesn't it??!

I sat on the beach for a while until I got hot, then went swimming. The water was chilly, but really crisp and refreshing. Later on the kids wanted me to go back in and THEN I thought it was freezing. LOL!

Mele Kalikimaka !!

sunny

...that's Merry Christmas in Hawaiian. =o)

Our day is finished and it's past 10:30pm for us. It was a really long day! For Christmas Eve last night, the kids baked cookies, ate dinner and were IN BED by 7:08pm! They willingly went up that early, and I kid you not.... they were asleep by 7:30pm! E told N that if they went to sleep early, they'd wake up early and start Christmas early. She was NOT kidding.

E came into my room, CARRYING N at 5:11am!! There was NO way I was getting up at that time, and even N wasn't ready. So he crawled into bed with me, and E went downstairs and watched some of "A Christmas Story". She came back up and wouldn't take no for an answer at 6:00am.

So we did the usual things... checked to see that Santa ate his cookies and drank his milk, checked the stockings to see they were full of goodies, etc. E collected the cards from the tree and brought the stockings to each of us.

Here is the stocking booty:

This is MY stocking booty... gum, lip stuff and dental floss! What's the deal with the floss Santa?? LOL! And my Santa apparently wants to make more cookies!

This is N at about 6:15am, opening a card:

This is N at about 6:16am, after discovering that card held a $100 check for him:

And then after we were all done, we brought Devil Dog in for his Christmas presents. He had 3 to open.

He doesn't LOOK like a demon, does he?

christmas20.jpg

It was a big Star Wars year here. That's the new Darth Vader voice changing mask. =o) And the super-cool color changing light saber that I didn't know required batteries. Once it's powered up, it changes colors from red to blue.

E looking awfully cute in her "Hello Kitty in Hawaii" shirt & jeans and new Carebear and iDog.
christmas21.jpg

The iDog and the Izzle IZ are really CUTE! It's SO cool to be able to listen to our iPod music without wearing the earplugs! These are really cute speaker systems for the pods.

christmas22.jpg

This is my Christmas booty! An awesome squishy computer desk chair, Rachael Ray's Furi knife, the new Food Network cookbook, pretty oven mitts, towels and an apron! E tells me my kitchen stuff is ugly, so I see she fixed that.
christmas23.jpg

We didn't go to the lagoons today because once the present opening was done, everyone wanted to play with their new stuff. Throughout the day we played 3 of the 4 new board games and E's new card game Phase 10, I built my chair (took me 3 tries, hon) and N really broke in the ONE video game that he got - "Star Wars Battlefront". He says it's his new favorite Playstation 2 game.

We ate dinner next door and it was a really nice time. I'm so glad they invited us. Two other neighborhood kids actually invited themselves to dinner too, so there were 6 kids and 3 adults. LOL! They made lasagne as the main course (they're Italian) and it was soooo good!! I took over breadsticks, a huge salad and Jello. hehe

We finally came home and E and I played one more round of Phase 10 while N broke out the "Battlefront" again. So I'm finally getting a chance to pull these pictures off the camera and post up about our Kalikimaka. From the comfort of my new chair. =o)

The Boy is Still Cooking!

Our Boy has gotten himself a new cookbook that he just LOVES! Its "Rachael Ray's Cooking Rocks! For Kids". He got it from his school order form from Scholastic books, and it finally arrived right before the Winter break.

Our first meal from it was sloppy joes and cheese fries. And man did he do a good job! The cheese sauce was really good - he started out by adding flour to melted butter, and then whisking in milk. After that thickened a little, we put in an entire bag of shredded cheddar cheese. Right before serving he added "the secret ingredient" of ketchup! Rachael says never tell anyone your secret ingredients, and he's taking that very seriously. LOL!

And after that dinner turned out so well - he even said it was the best thing he's EVER eaten - he got out another of his cookbooks:

ncooks5.jpg

ncooks6.jpg

Last night we made our own pizza. The kids made the dough and put the toppings on. E was in charge of making a 3-person pizza... she wanted only cheese, N wanted pepperoni on his, and I wanted onions and mushrooms, too.

========

So it's Christmas Eve today. I told N he couldn't play with anyone until his room was absolutely perfectly clean. Afterall, Santa's not going to bring new toys if there's no where to put them, right?? It took him last night and today until Noon, and a bit of help from me afterwards, but it's done now.

We've got the neighbor boys over so their parents can do some Christmas wrapping. It's really weird getting ready for the big day alone. Never done that before. Last night right before bed, I got an email from the FRG telling me that C's unit arrived safely in Iraq... so he's no longer in Kuwait. She said communication is spotty there, but we'd hear from them when possible. Like I don't already know that.

The kids and I are still planning on going to the lagoons tomorrow after present opening, but we have to make sure we're home in time to make breadsticks and a huge salad to contribute our share to dinner with our neighbors. The kids may end up deciding to just wait and go to the beach the next day... they may want to just play with their new stuff.
