There really hasn't been anything to show off in pictures around here lately. January really did start off the Hawaii winter rainy season... I actually had plans to go to the Lagoons today during the school day with my neighbor, but it's pouring out. She went yesterday and it was a gorgeous day! Not fair.
The kids began their second week of basketball and karate last night. It was actually only their second practice because they couldn't go last Thursday night. The Boy received his Gi (is that how you spell that?? The white karate uniform) and he was SO HAPPY. So he's got that beginning white belt... I get the idea that earning the yellow belt is pretty easy, so that could happen next month maybe.
Here he is last Tuesday on his first night in class.
The class is about 60% girls, 40% boys.... there are 3 blue belts who are all girls, there is one purple belt (a girl), an orange belt (a girl LOL!), a few yellow belts (boys and girls) and a couple of total newbies like N with the white belts.
Thursdays are FIGHT NIGHTS! Did THAT ever make N's night. So not only did he get his Gi, but he got to fight too! This totally changed his outlook on karate.
How cute and funny is THAT??
I don't know why he's got red, devil eyes... every single picture from last night came out that way.
Wonderfully enough.... E's basketball practice is on both of same nights as karate and at the same time!!
Here are a few shots of her. I need a lot of practice at taking action shots of bball... they all stunk!! Her team is made up of 7 boys and 2 girls. She is the only one who has never played... and it shows. hehehehe When she stands on the free throw line, she can't hit the rim or anything... the ball just goes sailing under. Those boys, however, can stand back on the yellow line at the half court and make the shots!!! It's unreal. They do fancy moves on layups and everything. E laughs at herself the whole time. She sure does love it tho. Her basketball lives in the house now... and she dribbles around the first floor!!!
She's doing so great, attitude-wise... as we walked home she was saying how she's definitely the weakest player on the team, they all have been playing for a lot longer, but she got better at defensive playing last night and actually blocked a shot! LOL She's the only one that doesn't have real basketball hightop sneakers and she couldn't care less. She still wears regular t-shirts and the little cheerleader shorts instead of the big, baggy silky bball ones...
The first basketball game is February 4th! That ought to be really interesting!
The first karate tournament that N would have a chance at going to is in April... and his Sense (sp? Sensi?) says he'll be able to compete in it. LOL! I need to learn how to spell Karate vocabulary words!
